Immersive Experiences and Awareness: The Escape Room at AstraZeneca

From August 19 to 22, Escape Time Brasil participated in AstraZeneca's "Take Care of Yourself Today" week by creating an escape room focused on the risks of lung cancer. Located near the auditorium, our room addressed not only the genetic factors that can influence the development of the disease but also highlighted smoking as one of the primary risk factors. The impact was undeniable: registrations sold out a week before the event, and every game session was completely full, reflecting the public's strong engagement and interest.

Studies show that 85% of lung cancer cases are linked to tobacco use, making awareness of this risk critical. Our escape room was designed so that participants could experience firsthand the damage smoking does to the body while also understanding the significant role genetic factors play in the predisposition to lung cancer.

According to a Harvard Business Review study, interactive activities like immersive experiences increase information retention by up to 76% compared to traditional learning approaches. This happens because immersion in a compelling story with challenging tasks engages the mind more effectively, making it easier to understand and remember complex topics.

During the event, participants were challenged to solve puzzles that emphasized the devastating consequences of lung cancer, from lung damage to broader health impacts. One of the core challenges involved discovering methods to help someone with a family history of cancer reduce their risks, emphasizing both prevention and the need for social and medical support. Additionally, we explored how the support of friends, family, and healthcare professionals can be crucial in the journey to quit smoking.

These immersive activities not only inform but also inspire behavioral change. The American Cancer Society states that interactive smoking awareness programs increase the likelihood of a smoker seeking help to quit by 40%. These are the types of results that motivate us to continue using our skills to create experiences that educate and transform.

We are very proud to have been part of this event at AstraZeneca, where we used gamification to tackle such an important issue as lung cancer. We are grateful for the trust and remain committed to offering immersive experiences that go beyond entertainment, positively and lastingly impacting lives.
