When referring
to socio-emotional competencies, it is important to take into account that we
are going to talk about a set of skills that are inherent to the human being
and that when properly trained and developed in each individual, they offer
great contributions both in the individual aspect and in the social aspect .
In other words,
the whole society benefits when each person is motivated to develop their
potential, providing, from there, greater personal and interpersonal
interaction.
Human development
Considering the
perspective of Lev Vigotsky's historical-cultural theory, human development
occurs, fundamentally, from interactions that the individual establishes and
experiences in the social environment, in which he is inserted.
The environment
contributes to the formation of thoughts and feelings, and these directly
influence the way of behaving, acting and reacting to individuals, in the face
of the challenges and situations that life offers on a daily basis.
Humanity is
experiencing new times, which bring new ways of doing the same things, and new
ways of standing in front of life. The process of developing human skills is
moving towards offering a comprehensive look at the person as a whole, covering
other aspects of being and not just the cognitive part.
In other words,
developing intellectually is of paramount importance, however, it is also
necessary to acquire knowledge in areas related to relationships, coexistence,
social interaction. As for example: develop the ability to perform tasks
together, create bonds of union, so that life in society is more harmonious and
focused on the whole.
Faced with this new scenario, socioemotional skills are invited to be part of the repertoire of daily behaviors that each person performs in the most diverse environments, whether at work, in the academic, family, in society, regardless of being here or on the other side of the world. .
The new skills facilitate the improvement of the quality of coexistence in society, as they are instruments that will provide emotional stability, so that the individual can act in the most appropriate and favorable way possible, even when the situation he is experiencing is in an unfavorable context.
The three groups of socio-emotional competences
We can list socio-emotional competences in three important groups:
Knowledge-related skills group
These skills will tell you about the importance of knowledge in the life of each person, because seeking knowledge is the possibility to exercise your curious side, your scientist side, it is to extract your creative essence in the most diverse areas, opening up to a range of events that allow you to investigate reality, broaden your view of your world and the world around us.
It will help in the perception of the most varied artistic and cultural manifestations, as they enrich the social coexistence and participation, since, by expanding knowledge, the reality as a whole is better understood, and by understanding it better, it is valued diversity, a factor that contributes very positively to minimize the possibilities of prejudice and indifference, contributing to the construction of a more inclusive, more participatory environment, which feeds the mind with innovations that are a contribution to humanity.
Skill-related skills group
It is related to the human ability to develop the most different communication channels, such as: oral, visual, body, sound, digital communication, among others.
They are necessary to make understand and capture more information about the environment, based on what is being said and understood. Non-verbal language has a lot to say to us, and through it the expression of feelings and thoughts happens, information is shared, favoring the practice of responsibility, exercising the development of critical awareness, producing an understanding of situations that are experienced daily.
Skills group related to attitudes and character
This group of skills will propose reflection on the importance of the individual to position himself ethically, both with himself and with other people and with the environment in general. It is necessary to awaken the understanding that what affects one being on this planet affects everyone else.
Its action in the world is not an isolated action. Your participation in this chapter of history is built up every time you look around and realize that you are not the only being who feels needs, who is experiencing difficulties and has internal issues yet to be resolved; your effective participation starts when you start the practice of empathy, which is precisely the sensitivity of putting yourself in someone else's shoes, seeing the world through someone else's filter, being an agent of solution, facilitating dialogues.
